HOW TO STAY SAFE IN WEB 3.0
FOLLOW THESE BEST PRACTICES TO STAY PROTECTED IN WEB 3.0
As with all other industries, Web 3.0 receives its fair share of scammers. Therefore, with the launch of our Web 3.0 project rapidly approaching, we want to protect you in the best way we can, by teaching you how to keep on top of the security of your assets and keep you up to date with the latest scams.
NEVER SHARE YOUR SECRET RECOVERY PHRASE
The Secret Recovery Phrase is the most vital piece of information, it acts as the master key to your account. Anyone with a Secret Recovery Phrase can access the corresponding wallet.
It is made up of a series of words, which in order to access the wallet have to be entered in the correct order. An example of a Secret Recovery Phrase would be the following:
Under no circumstances should a Secret Recovery Phrase be stored on a device connected to the internet, this includes making a note / taking a photo of it on your phone or computer.
Keep Secret Recovery Phrase offline, such as writing the phrase in a book that can be stored safely and making multiple copies, which won’t be misplaced.
BEWARE OF PHISHING LINKS
One of the most significant ways people get scammed is by pressing on a phishing link. If you click on this dodgy link and connect your digital wallet to the website, you risk losing your assets.
Educate yourself on the latest scams, follow the industry standard practices and don’t get greedy. Remember if something sounds too good to be true then it probably is.
STAY AWAY FROM DIRECT MESSAGES
Never click on a link you’ve received in Discord / Twitter / Instagram DMs, especially if you don’t know them personally.
Every DM congratulating you on winning a giveaway or allowing you the chance to mint a new project is a scam. Do not press these links!
Veloce will never host a surprise giveaway or mint without informing our community at least 24 hours beforehand!
USE OFFICIAL LINKS ONLY
Only ever use trusted official sources & links. Remain vigilant because many will pretend that they’re an official source but the URL of the link will be slightly different and once signed for transactions on the blockchain are irreversible.
AVOID FAKE INDIVIDUALS
Scammers will try to impersonate the profile of a celebrity, influencer, project founders, admins and moderators, by changing their name and profile picture. Never tell these accounts your Secret Recovery Phrase. Never send them crypto and never fill out a form to hand out your personal details. If you come across one of these accounts, report them and block them immediately.
DISABLE DISCORD DMS
It is highly recommended to turn off the DMs feature in Discord so that only people you are friends with can message you directly. To do this complete the following steps:
- Go to "User Settings" at the bottom of Discord
- Select "Privacy & Safety"
- Find the ‘Allow direct messages from server members’ setting and make sure that it is disabled
HARDWARE WALLETS
A hardware wallet is a type of cold wallet, meaning that it is not connected to the internet. This is the best place to store your digital assets. An example of a hardware wallet is Ledger.
If purchasing, make sure it is from the official website. Never purchase it from a secondary website such as Amazon or eBay. These can be susceptible to hackers interfering with the supply chain, by compromising the wallets when someone decides to buy a resold wallet.
PASSWORD PROTECTION
Never share your computer screen because this can leave users vulnerable to certain attacks if the hackers are able to obtain screenshots or the live feed of your device.
If the browser asks to save your password, decline it. Never save your Web 3.0 passwords in any browsers or password storage applications and never store any recovery files on your computer.
Always store all types of passwords, including your Secret Recovery Phrase, offline. This can be achieved by using an old-school pen and notepad, but make sure to make multiple copies and to keep them in safe places.
