E.ON supports Veloce star as part of its campaign to champion women in under-represented sports
Veloce star Molly Taylor will compete in two rounds of the support series for the FIA World Rallycross Championship – RX2e – with support from Veloce Racing’s Extreme E partner E.ON, having signed for the Hansen Motorsport junior team, #YellowSquad.
A multiple X Prix winner in Extreme E, Taylor will make her next electric debut in RX2e at Mettet in Belgium (August 5-6), before competing in the championship showdown at Estering in Germany (August 19-20).
Currently in contention for the Extreme E title alongside teammate Kevin Hansen – having taken the top step at both the Desert X Prix and Hydro X Prix this season – Taylor’s signing for the #YellowSquad team positions her within the wider Hansen Motorsport structure.
Taylor joins arguably the most successful team in rallycross history, benefiting and learning from the Hansen family’s experience as she takes on this new challenge.
Alongside fellow Extreme E driver Catie Munnings, who has raced with #YellowSquad at three events this year, Taylor looks to continue the legacy of females in the team. Susann Hansen became the first and so-far only female to win a European Rallycross title when she secured the 1400 Cup crown in 1994.
Lining up in Mettet in the single-specification, 270kW, four-wheel-drive all-electric RX2e machine sporting the distinctive red and white E.ON colours, Taylor will join full-time #YellowSquad driver Isak Sjökvist, who currently sits second in the RX2e championship standings.
The FIA RX2e series is the support for the FIA World Rallycross Championship at five rounds in 2023. With Norway, Sweden, and the UK already contested, only Belgium and Germany remain as #YellowSquad fight for the title.
Molly Taylor said: “I’m really excited to join RX2e for these two events. It’s an incredible opportunity and I’m very grateful to E.ON and to Veloce Racing for making this possible.
“Rallycross is something completely new to me, so I’m looking forward to taking on this challenge, learning and developing as quickly as possible. Running with #YellowSquad I know I have the right people around me and can’t wait to get started.”
Daniel Bailey, CEO and Co-Founder of Veloce Racing, said: "We’re delighted to have Molly racing in the FIA RX2e championship with the Hansen’s junior team, and we’re excited to see what she can achieve at these next two events.
“It is a great opportunity for her to get wider experience in electric racing under the guidance of such a knowledgeable team, and we also have our partners E.ON to thank for helping to make this a reality. As a company E.ON strives to champion the equality issues in sport and beyond and this is a high-profile platform to display this commitment and to show great support for our drivers and our Veloce family.”
Scott Somerville, Chief Marketing Officer for E.ON UK, said: “We’re big fans of Molly and Kevin from our time together in Extreme E and it’s great our existing relationship supports the further development of sustainable motorsport. Our work with Veloce focuses on the twin goals of promoting greater diversity in sport and inspiring people to help in tackling the climate crisis and we couldn’t have better ambassadors in delivering that message to a wider audience.”
Molly will test the car for the first time in Spain on Tuesday 1st August, before her first foray into the world of world class rallycross competition on Friday 5th August with qualifying and racing at this favourite track amongst rallycross fans on Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th August.
