British XE squad out to return to winning ways at Island X Prix

Veloce Racing will return to Sardinia for this weekend’s Island X Prix (16/17 September), as the third-placed British outfit look to return to the top of the Extreme E standings.

Molly Taylor and Kevin Hansen started the season in flying form, taking a win at each of the opening two events in Saudi Arabia and Scotland respectively, before misfortune in Sardinia in July saw them battling it out in both Redemption Races.

Ready to fight back this weekend, Taylor and Hansen are set to hit the ground running against their closest rivals the ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team, who lead the overall standings with 109 points, and Rosberg X Racing, who sit four points behind in second.

The turnaround for Veloce Racing in 2023 has already been truly impressive. Having bounced back from a challenging Season 2, the fledgling team could now find themselves with their fingertips on the championship trophy following a strong comeback in Sardinia.

Extreme E will race in Sardinia for a third successive season and for the second time in 2023, with the revised three-kilometre track providing a challenging test in conditions different to the usual mid-summer visit to the Army Training area at Capo Teulada.

Saturday’s upcoming Island X Prix could prove a pivotal turning point in the campaign, whilst Sunday’s event will mark the end of the penultimate double-header of Season 3, as the title race reaches its closing stages.

Daniel Bailey, CEO, Veloce Racing, said: "We had a dream start to this season, but this is motorsport and we know that anything can happen. Finding ourselves in both Redemption Races last time out in Sardinia was a new challenge, but everyone has worked extremely hard to ensure we will be back to competing at the very highest level for the remainder of the year."

Molly Taylor, Veloce Racing driver, said: "We've tasted a lot of success so far this season, but Rounds 5 and 6 in Sardinia left a bit of a bitter taste. The level of competition in Extreme E is so high, and the title fight this year feels particularly tight. We pushed hard at the last Island X Prix to stay within reach of the top of the standings and we're excited to have another chance to show what we're capable of in Sardinia."

Kevin Hansen, Veloce Racing driver, said: "We had to fight hard at the last Island X Prix but scored some valuable points in both Redemption Races. The team learnt a lot and Molly and I have put those lessons to work in testing and in our rallycross ventures, so we feel well prepared to get back to winning ways in this next Island X Prix."
